Inspiration is a small thing. However, if acted upon properly it can turn into the field of dreams that with God and your own motivation can be a reality. I just watched a video regarding Tyler Perry, whom I love immensely! The video illustrated just why TP has had all of the success he has had thus far, even with the HATERS, riding his coat tails.
As a writer in my own right Mr. Perry has provided me a tangible vision of just what believing in God, determination and never backing down can do! So I felt that it was only right for me to say THANK YOU! Dr. Maya Angelou once said, “Thank u is what you say to God.” It means more than one could ever know or even articulate.

I don’t know what God’s plans are for me but if there is one thing I can say in his own way Tyler Perry has shown me through his unwavering faith is that as long as you keep GOD FIRST failure is not an option….. So as I hope to some day follow in Mr. Perry’s footsteps or perhaps work along side him, I truly from the bottom of my heart just wanted to say THANK U!!!!! http://tylerperry.com/scrapbook/video/91/

Radio Host and former Daily News columnist Fatimah Ali passes away at 56

I am utterly surprised to report that one of today’s top journalist Fatimah Ali has passed away. According to an article via Philly.com the news was announced by local radio station 900AM WURD. Which Ali worked for. According to the station, the entire staff was shocked and saddened by this unexpected loss. Although, I never really tuned into her show I would often catch my aunt who was an avid fan of her morning show and is deeply saddened by this loss talk about just how awesome a woman Ali was. From time to time however, I would hear bits and pieces of segments from her show and found them rather thought provoking and enlightening.

It is with this in mind and the fact that she was a devoted part of the journalism community which has prompted me to reflect on her memory today. Also because she was a devoted family woman and activist which brings to life the theory I shared in a previous article about the craft of journalism and there still being true journalist left in the world.

Despite the fact that currently, there is no clarity as to how Ali died I felt that as nymph in the sea of budding journalists it is my duty to reflect on the life and legacy of those whose shoulders I stand on. Had it not be for women like Ali, Black women specifically speaking, I would not be able to do something as simple as post this blog or have studied the craft of journalism. So it isn’t with sadness or a confused heart that I write this blog but with honor and pride that I can say I’m following in the footsteps of a well respected, talented, loved woman….. Toni Braxton & BabyFace come to New Jersey in Concert!!!!

Needless to say, I’m super excited that the one and only Toni Braxton and Kenny Babyface Edmonds will be in Atlantic City New Jersey at Ceasars Palace hotel March 24, 2012. Now being the huge music addict that I am, I make it my business to go see my most favorite artists live in concert.

My first encounter with seeing my favorite artist live was back in 1999 when I got to see Brandy during her Never Say Never tour. Of course during my college days I got to see some of my favs live as well, however, it didn’t mean as much because seeing those folk were more like a take it or leave it kind of thing.

Anyway, the ultimate gift of seeing my all time favorite artist live was on March 25, 2011 when I got to see Janet Jackson perform live and meet her backstage….. So my circle of seeing my favorite artist would be complete if I got the chance to see Ms. Braxton LIVE!!! I’ll keep my fingers crossed in hopes of getting my chance! Because I love me some Toni!!!!

Mary Mary Gets Real!

This bit of information I’ve been up on for a while. I decided to wait until it got a little closer to airing to blog about it. So that could mean a few things. Many of you may already know about it or some of you have no clue what I’m talking about or if I’m being honest some of you may not care.

Nevertheless, it is my job to talk about what’s happening in entertainment. As a WE TV addict I practically live on the website so as I said I found out about this news a while back. Anyway, Gospel dynamic Duo Mary Mary is set to have a reality show this March on We tv. Now to be honest I love Mary Mary! However, I have yet to decide if I want to watch their show.

Mainly, because if there is one thing I’ve learned from the Braxtons situations can get uuuuuuugggggggllllyyyy and the cameras can sometimes intensify those situations.Still, let’s keep in mind; just because the sisters of Mary Mary are women of God, they are still very human….. so the drama would be interesting to see.

Aside, from all the drama I think Mary Mary could give reality television the touch of class it has been missing. Now don’t get me wrong in my opinion Braxton Family Values is one of the best reality shows on TV right now. That show itself was a step up from many of the other “reality” shows on these days. On the contrary, after having said that. I don’t know….. These last couple of episodes, my girls have been in each of their own words “on 20″ lately lol!

However, I personally don’t feel as though it’s enough to put them in the same category with the likes of the cast of Jersey Shore and Mob Wives. I just want to say as a proud Jersey Girl in the part of Jersey I’m from my life is nothing like that. I digress that’s another blog entirely.

Back to Mary Mary I think it would be fun to see what goes on in the everyday lives of these beautifully talented siblings Tina and Erica. Although it is only nearing the end of January and the show doesn’t air until some time in March I still have time to decide. So if you’re like me and you are unsure if you want to take this journey just meditate on it for a while.

Either way, I’m excited for these ladies and if I do decide to tune in I’ll be giving my thoughts, and predictions about the shows staying power once it does air! Now if only someone could talk Janet Jackson into a reality show I’d be over the moon with excitement! Lol. Again, another blog entirely… Well I’ll return with official air dates and a time for Mary Mary’s reality show….. Stay tuned for more info…. What ever happened to Blu Cantrell?

As I lie in bed a few moments ago. A few passing thoughts streamed through my head, a few I’d decided weren’t much for entertaining the concept to begin with. Like, why on earth did Beyonce and Jay-z name their child Blue in the first place? Or why did this particular topic of conversation take up as much media time and fan speculation and or criticism as it did? Anyway, as much as I hate to admit it, these thoughts were the preface to this particular blog. Well, that and the fact that I’ve been fasting for the entire month of January and had decided to ween myself off of secular music during this time. Yet some how just about every other day I wake up with a different song in my head….

However, I have to admit I’ve been doing pretty well with not playing the songs I’m accustomed to listening to at the drop of a dime. Anyway, the next thought that popped into my head was “What ever happened to Blu Cantrell?” Now, as I recall, her most noted song was entitled “Hit um up style” and to this day it’s honestly the only song I know by her but frankly it’s one that sticks out in my mind as a truly great tune and makes me question the credibility of that now seemingly over used terminology unique….

It seems nowadays everybody is so unique, yet if one really stops to listen most of today’s artists and their “unique” sound is, plainly put overrated. There are a few artist who stick out in my mind as unique Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Blu Cantrell and a few others anyway back to the story at large. So, the thought occurred to me, where in the world could she be? Now like I said I only knew one song by her but personally it was all I needed.

Tiffany Cobb A.K.A Blu Cantrell set the pace for some of today’s newest soul searchers. “Hit um style” in my opinion was one of those rare high quality songs that made you feel good, kick ass and take names simultaneously. What I loved most about it was its combination of contemporary jazz influenced homage with a twist on the evolving sound of that particular era in the early 2000′s. I guess, one could say; the reason for this blog is because I was stricken by an unexpected case of nostalgia which I endure from time to time…. However, I find it best to always go with my gut so I decided to bring this passing inquiry to life. Perhaps like so many others who’ve come before her Ms. Blu Cantrell will make a triumphant return…..

Until then I’ll remind myself of the song that made me stop and pay attention. Oh and really quick by sheer coincidence I happened to stumble across an article that Ironically links the afore mentioned individuals to Ms. Cantrell in a rather interesting way….. As usual, I’m browsing the internet not looking for anything in particular when I stumble across a trending topic that read internet addiction….. Now, it caught my attention for more than one reason. I like to think of myself as a very self aware individual so sometimes, I find that I ask myself certain questions and the thought has crossed my mind if whether or not I have an addiction to the internet. If I’m being honest, I think in some way we all do. Especially with the ever evolving phenomena that is technology. However, according to an article by foxnews.com Internet addictions have similar effects to the brain as being addicted to alcohol or drugs… I find this extremely interesting and of course felt the need to blog about it. So enough of what I think and how interesting I find this I’ll let you read it for yourself and decide whether or not you should be admitted to Internet Addicts Anonymous!

Ginuwine Plus 8?

First of all Happy New Year, I sincerely hope that 2012 is treating you all well thus far. As you can see, it has taken me a little while to return with a blog. However, that’s because I have a lot going on these days….. needless to say, I have returned…. In trying to decide what my first blog of the new year should be I of course had to do some research…. So that’s what I did….. Anyway, according to both TV ONE and worldstar hiphop.com

R&B heartthrob Ginuwine and his lovely wife sole will be embarking on their journey into the reality show world. According to TV ONE Ginuwine had mentioned some time last year that he wouldn’t mind doing a reality tv show….. Both Ginuwine and Sole have lent their talents to the music industry in their own right and are well known and respected….. unfortunately, I couldn’t find much written info on the show…. However, thanks to worldstarhiphop.com there is a video clip to give fans a sneak peak into Ginuwine and sole’s world…..

I’m not exactly sure when the show will air or if their is even a release date set…. However, I am a huge fan of Ginuwine so I’ll be waiting to find out when the show will air and if I decide to watch it once it does air I’ll write and let you all know how I liked it or not…. Either way, for now just enjoy the clip.

Guilty By Association (What happened to the craft of Journalism?)

I just read an article via brownsista.com that not only aggravated me but offended me for more than one reason. For those of you who haven’t seen or read about it. There was an article written by a Dutch journalist about pop sensation Rihanna which he or she blatantly and rather disrespectfully titled “De Nigga Bitch.”

According to the magazine’s editor the title was written as merely a joke! Hmm, I’m not so sure about that….. That’s like saying Hitler only obliterated Jewish people for fun. I personally found nothing funny about the article or its title. I’m just curious to find out how in the hell this particular article made it passed the editor and into publication?

As a former student of journalism, a young black woman, and a lover of words, I think I have provided several tangible reasons just why I am disgusted by this flagrant, ridiculous display of racism! Unfortunately, so many people look at media professionals with eyes of skepticism and mistrust and with good reason anything printed anymore is simply garbage!

Just something to line bird cages with or have your cat or dog shit and piss on. However, I know for a fact true journalist still exists; thanks to sensationalism journalism has taken a turn for the worst.

Honestly, the true definition of journalism is to tell a story, not to throw stuff in there to make it read better, that as I mentioned is called sensationalism and the only reason I can think that certain journalist nowadays do that is because they are merely talent-less parasites looking for an outlet from their own humdrum lives!

Because of that, most people look at journalism as something to laugh at. This craft has become the laughing stock of the modern world and is in turn making a mockery of its predecessors who actually understood what this craft is supposed to be real, raw and believable. Don’t get me wrong there are still plenty of great journalist that exist yet, they are out shined by nonsensical, mediocre forms of “adequate” writing/reporting.

Honestly, sometimes I regret having studied the craft. Then, I remind myself that not all of those who took the time to learn and immerse themselves into the principals, practices, view points, concepts and ideas of what it takes to be real storytellers are that way. It is just unfortunate, that society already has ill feelings about journalism and those who have any part in it. Guilt by Association.

Guilty by association refers to the attribution of guilt without any proof on individuals solely for the reason that those whom they associate with are guilty.http://definitions.uslegal.com/g/guilty-by-association/ Despite, the negative connotations associated with journalism the field and those who deal with it, there are still great journalist and I plan to be one myself one day.

We all have a right to our opinions however, some things are best left unsaid and this article was unnecessary and poorly written. My hope for the field of journalism is that one day it can once again be viewed as a respected and even sought after career. For those journalist out there continuing to illustrate just what true journalism is THANK U!
